How to remove products

This guide shows how to delete products from your Kitchen Cut system

Applies to:
This guide applies to any system administrators looking to tidy up their database by removing Products.

Common Causes/Issues:
Over time, as you use your Kitchen Cut account and develop your menus or have changing users, you may accumulate some redundant data. This can include old menus, recipes, products, and menu items that are no longer needed. While your account does not restrict the number of records held in your Kitchen Cut system, it can be helpful to remove some of this data to make it easier to navigate and find the records that are still important to you and your users.

Removing Products:

*Please note: before removing products we strongly recommend taking an export of all your current products. To do this, go to Suppliers > Products > Export, then select Export. Saving this file means you have a backup of all products and can reinstate products by reimporting this file if you delete any by mistake.*

You can only delete a product if it is NOT currently in use in any subrecipes, recipes, or menu items. In Suppliers > Products, an orange line indicator on the bottom edge of the tickbox indicates that a product is in use and therefore cannot be deleted:

You can delete products individually by choosing Actions > Delete:

You can also delete products in bulk by multi-selecting using the tickbox on the left-hand side, and then choosing 'Delete products' from the 'do with selected' dropdown at the bottom-right of the page:

Tip: you can select all (including products that are currently in use) and then choose delete, and only those which are not in use will actually be deleted. If you change the page view to show 500 items, and select all and delete then this would be the quickest way to bulk-delete non-used products.

FAQs:
Q: Can I archive products rather than delete them?
A: No, there's no archive functionality for Products in Kitchen Cut.

Q: I don't have the option to delete when click on Actions against a product?
A: You are in the wrong location level to be able to delete this item. Depending on your user access, you may be able to move to the correct location to be able to remove the product (this is displayed directly underneath the product name). If not, then contact your system administrator who will be able to remove the product.

Q: Can I bulk delete all products from an entire supplier?
A: Yes, you can do this by using the bulk-delete method explained above, combined with filtering by the supplier. Alternatively, by going to Suppliers > Connections, you can choose Actions > Replace again a supplier to remove the supplier altogether. This will delete any non-used products from this supplier, however, please note this will also remove used products, which will then be held in the 'Find & Replace' page where they will need to be replaced across all recipes.
