🧩 Also Works for Sub-Recipes

This feature isn’t limited to products — it can also be used to trace which recipes a sub-recipe appears in.

This is particularly useful when:

  • Making changes to a batch sub-recipe

  • Reviewing the impact of allergen changes

  • Managing GP or cost updates across menus

🔄 Why This Feature Matters

Being able to track product and sub-recipe usage:

  • Saves time when updating ingredient details or replacing items

  • Prevents errors by highlighting all affected recipes

  • Supports traceability for allergen, nutrition, and compliance management

  • Helps ensure stock usage aligns with recipes in your inventory

💡 Best Practices

  • Use the knife and fork tool before deleting or replacing a product to check where it’s in use

  • Regularly audit product usage to spot inconsistencies or duplicates

  • When updating a sub-recipe, always check which recipes will be affected

  • Use this feature in tandem with the Find & Replace tool when retiring ingredients

❓FAQs

Can I remove a product that’s used in recipes?
You can’t delete a product if it's actively used in recipes. Use the knife and fork icon to identify where it’s in use and replace it first.

Can I trace where sub-recipes are used too?
Yes — the same knife and fork icon will show all recipes and menus that contain a given sub-recipe.

What if a product isn’t used anywhere?
The list will be blank — indicating it's not used in any recipes. This may suggest it’s safe to delete or archive. You can also see whether a product is in use using the red line in the product checkbox.
